Environmental Protection Act

You may be interested to know that the Environmental Protection Act 1990 contains no legislation for frequency of refuse collection.

Defra advised that this was not included specifically because remote areas such at the Scottish Isles could not be expected to receive a weekly refuse collection - a very unconvincing argument when viewed against the localities of the overwhelming proportion of the people.

Department of Health

It may come as a surprise to learn that the Department of Health has not carried out any risk assessment relating to the consequences of leaving perishable waste uncollected for two weeks or more.

The Department of Health advises local authorities that reducing frequency of general waste collection may cause offensive odours and attract flies and vermin.
