Local Authorities
Residents are expressing concerns to their local authorities and in some cases are presenting petitions with thousands of names listed. More than often these petitions are ignored. By joining forces we may be able to put pressure on OUR government departments to introduce legislation dealing specifically with frequency of perishable waste collections.
Several councils have already reverted to weekly residual waste collection following either unsuccessful trials or fully implemented schemes. These include:
- Southampton City Council
- London Borough of Sutton
- Leeds City Council
- Plymouth City Council
- Chelmsford Borough Council
- Nuneaton & Bedworth District Council (3 weeks!)
- North Lanarkshire Council
- Bury Metropolitan Borough Council
- Kirklees Council
- Scarborough Borough Council
- Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council
- Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
- East Dunbartonshire Council
- Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council
- East Cambridgeshire District Council
- Rushmoor Borough Council
Councils reverting to weekly collections for summer months only:
- Epping Forest District Council
- Gedling Borough Council
Councils introducing weekly food waste collections:
- Teignbridge District Council
- Taunton Deane Borough Council
- Eastleigh Borough Council
- Cardiff Council
- Sefton Council
- Mendip District Council
- Mole Valley District Council
- Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council
- Aberdeenshire Council
- Bath and N East Somerset Council
- Amber Valley District Council
- North Somerset District Council
- Newtownabbey Borough Council
- Bristol City Council
- South Shropshire District Council
Decisions to introduce AWCs reversed
- Maidstone Borough Council
- Salisbury District Council
The increasing number of councils introducing alternate week schemes (based on cost and the belief that residents will be forced to recycle) makes it necessary for all those who have experienced problems or anticipate problems to make their feelings known.
